Advanced Diabetic Tractional Retinal Detachment – Unimanual Vitrectomy

A 61-year-old man with advanced tractional retinal detachment secondary to proliferative diabetic retinopathy.

This case was a severe tractional retinal detachment case that had never been lasered before. An anti-VEGF injection was made 2 days before the surgery. The surgeon (Dr. Giray Ersöz) used the unimanual vitrectomy technique for both segmentation and delamination. On the third day after surgery, the retina was attached, except for the fold area, and visual acuity improved from hand motion to counting fingers at 2 meters.
